blues picture Everett Smithson Band Bio

The Everett Smithson Band plays an interesting variety of music as well as standards that have a unique spin on them and many delightful originals. They play Zydeco (swamp rock), Rock and Roll, Country, Blues and Rockabilly. The song list is unpredictable with songs from Fats Domino, Johnny Cash, Howlin Wolf, Rosie Ledet, Wanda Jackson and Memphis Minnie. The band consists of Phil Schmid on Guitar, Jeremy Johnson on Drums and the ubiquitous Bill Black on Standup Bass. These guys have played nationally and internationally with big name acts such as Bo Diddley, Lynwood Slim, Big George Jackson, Gary Primich and many others. They have played together for a long time and when they get together on stage they really tear it up with their solid rhythms and red hot instrumentals.

Everett's first band involvement was in 1982. In 1983 his experience playing at the Kingston Mines jam really turned him on to the Blues after which he began a fifteen year involvement with the Alley Katz playing over 600 shows.

Kathleen has been on stage for the last 7 years. She is a self taught musician who spent most of her young life playing a variety of instruments and singing with her sister. Accordion players run in her family and in the late 90s she started frequenting the local jams and sitting in with bands.

The band keeps their sets up tempo to appeal to dancers. Every show is a little different from the song list to the special guest musicians. They have become a popular pick for entertaining at Festivals, Cookoffs, Town Celebrations as well as Bars, Nightclubs and Parties for the past several years.

Some of the Festivals include Bayfront Blues Festival, Summerfest, Upper Mississippi Shakedown, Cedar Fest, Ribfest, Rockbend Folk Fest, Porcupine Mountain Music Fest, Mankato Ribfest, Walker Cajun Fest and a number of Mardi Gras parties. With male and female vocals, harmonica, accordion, standup bass, it has a very different visual appeal than what most people are use to seeing. Their mission is to keep things upbeat, have fun and make the crowd and bar owner happy!

Their CD "Copperheads and Featherbeds" was released in June 05 and is available for purchase on Amazon, Electric Fetus, Down in the Valley and the band web site.
